Buruni Island – Thaa Atoll
A Corner of Paradise
Located in Thaa Atoll, 185 km south of Malé, the capital of the Maldives, Buruni Island is a small paradise where nature, culture, and local traditions intertwine naturally.
With about 400 inhabitants, the island hosts a lively and welcoming community: the local council, municipal police, a health center with a resident doctor (emergency care), an ATM dispensing local currency, a pharmacy, bars and mini-markets, a school, mosques, a small gym accessible to residents and guests, a recreation center with games, as well as football and volleyball fields. Buruni is not a tourist island, but a place where you can immerse yourself in Maldivian daily life, discovering its authenticity and simplicity.
Surrounded by palms and lush forest, with pristine coral reefs and snorkeling just a short swim from Bikini Beach, the island offers unforgettable experiences for those seeking nature, relaxation, and adventure. Discovering Buruni Island also means learning stories like that of Dhon Hiyala and Ali Fulhu, iconic figures of Maldivian folklore, and being enchanted by local traditions.
Here you can experience the gentle rhythm of the island, its colors, its customs, and be lulled by silences broken only by the breath of the Indian Ocean.

The Enchantment of the Ocean
Just a few steps from the guesthouse is Bikini Beach, a stretch of soft white sand bathed by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, reserved exclusively for guests. Here you can relax in the shade of palm trees or on comfortable loungers with umbrellas, enjoying the sun and the freedom to wear a swimsuit (except for topless, which is not allowed).
In front of the rooms lies the picturesque Local Beach, the perfect setting to admire the Indian Ocean in all its beauty. Here is also the On The Beach HUT restaurant, where the scent of the sea blends with the flavors of Maldivian and Italian cuisine.
The Maldives is a 100% Muslim country, and on inhabited islands it is important to respect certain local customs:
Swimsuits can only be worn on Bikini Beach; in other areas of the island, appropriate clothing is required (shorts, t-shirts, or light and respectful attire).
Topless is not permitted, even on Bikini Beach.
Consumption of alcohol or pork is not allowed.
These simple rules allow you to enjoy an authentic and peaceful stay in harmony with the local culture.
